Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival

Originally Oct 4, 2014

Nothing beats a free concert in Golden Gate Park!  Two consecutive weeks of Golden Gate Park didn't suffice to make a dent in the bucket list, but it was a good start.

This weekend long Bluegrass Festival attracted the typical San Francisco characters- i.e. hippies, techies, and tech-hippie crowd. Refreshingly there were other categories of people that you don't always see at the "SF cafeteria lunch tables" such as families with small children, tourists, and frat boys (they left the Marina that day). All the diverse friend groups gathered on picnic blankets with food and drinks to watch a band play on one of many stages.

The only things I wish I knew going into it are:

  1. They don't sell alcohol even when they sell food
  2. The stages are pretty far apart and with large groups its is hard to migrate
  3. Do not bring a bike or you may never find it again. See picture above.

I don't know how to ride a bike so the last bullet wasn't a problem for me, but as you can tell from the picture of the bike mess it was not ideal for those that had been at the concert all day and wanted to get home. The triple surge pricing was an issue that affected me. That day my driver  got into an accident so the ride ended up being free. The car accident made for an entirely free day!

For the non-bluegrass aficionados I recommend going early, bringing lots of food and drinks, and getting out before the masses.

Until Next time. Stay Tuned.
